The Blue Mountains, ON Feb 18-20, 2024
Family Day 2024. The wallet drainers had 4 days off of school, ridiculous. Turned the long weekend into a week. "Mid winter break" is what they call it. Ridiculous. I complain as always, but gives us a chance to spend the quality time with them away and break the everydayness that we have through the year. Skiing anyone? Sure, why not. A few hours drive to Collingwood and the Blue Mountains for another visit, but this time was different as we haven't had a lot of snow this winter. Lucky for us, it snowed on the Sunday and we got 2 pretty good days of skiing in on Monday and Tuesday. Staying at the Westin for a few nights right at the base of the "mountain" was going to be a nice getaway and a successful few nights and days to make some memories. Skiing is the ultimate family holiday. Blessed to have been taken by my folks when I was young and continuing the tradition for the Mrs and I with ours. In a day and age of all the phone and tech and info and social and ridiculousness, it's one a the few activities where you can be outside all day or at least for 6 hours and be athletic and fit and get your heart rate up and not get stupid looking at a screen. Like the good ol' days, like old times. Great place to visit and busy all the time, restaurants, the lift lines, the pool, the hot tub, the hotel. Great to see this one time sleepy town turn into the bustling, energetic village it has become. There are candy stores, bars, pottery stores and even a few haberdasheries. Wallet officially drained.
SET UP
One queen bed with a pullout sofa. Always tough to go from a king adjustable bed at home to a smaller queen, but so much love that I can't complain about being cozy with the Mrs. Nice room, with a very small kitchenette, but all you need for a few nights.
MATTRESS
The Heavenly Bed by Simmons - as mentioned in the past not so heavenly, but depending on the year it was manufactured and amount it's been slept on, it can be on the plusher and cozier side. This one was just fine. Again, nothing special here, do not go out and start buying this off the overpriced website. Come in and see me and I'll get you a better deal.
SLEEP
Always great after a day or 2 of skiing and some apres in ya. Room was very dry and thermostat set to 68 but still so hot. Ended up turning it off and room temp was perfect.
OVERALL
Fun few days away and always a blast skiing with the fam. Good times and nice stay, although there are not very many options this one is probably the best for both proximity to the hill and choice of restaurants and other activities. Very family oriented place and would recommend. ⛷🎿😎💤
