First Blog Post

The whole blogging idea, I have to admit, is completely foreign to me. I am a 42 year old and part of a generation who is caught in between this old and new school of communication. I still like to call people and have a conversation and hear the tonality in one’s voice. The social media outlets are still a bit strange but to me, but I am going to take advantage of them to speak to a topic that is near and dear to my heart: mattresses!

I decided a while ago to get involved in the mattress industry as sleep was not my friend. I tried everything. I was on a mission. To find what a lot of us take for granted – 7 to 8 hours of sound sleep every night. I finally found something that worked, and with that I decided to open a store to help others achieve the same goal, a good night’s sleep. Thirteen years later, here I am reaching out in other ways to provide some insight. Probably the most important aspect of my job, and I learned it quick, is that everyone’s sleeping habits and preferences are different. There is not one mattress out there that is going to satisfy everyone, but there are so many choices that finding one that works for you is attainable. You may require a little more patience and a little more money, but there is a solution. I often get the question, “What’s the best mattress?” from my clients. My only answer is, “Which one feels good to you?” I also get, “Which one is the most expensive,? to which I reply, “This one, but it might not feel comfortable for you.” Someone once coined, “One man’s trash is another man’s treasure.” I use that all the time.

Something else that gets talked about all the time in the shoppe goes something like, “We were at this hotel, and we had the best sleep ever!” I reply often to that, “How many margaritas did you have? Were you with the kids or by yourselves?” But I give the hoteliers credit, they caught on. This notion that everyone always has a better night’s sleep while away, suddenly prompted the hotels to start selling their mattresses online, and it continues with the linens and pillows and slippers and bathrobes and yada yada yada. So I did some research, and please let me be the first to tell you that the mattresses are nothing special, in fact not special at all. Which leads me to this blog. Everyone reviews hotels, everyone reviews mattresses, but no one reviews hotel mattresses. Until now. I can only afford so many holidays, so this may or may not help you and in no way are these posts intended to sway you from one hotel to the next, it’s strictly my opinion. Here we go…….
