Las Vegas, Nevada Jan 26-28, 2020
Waldorf Astoria Hotel
A city that is magical, a city that is mysterious and a city that I love. 3 times a lady she is. No better way to spend time here then with the woman who is magical, mysterious and that I love. The Mrs. and I off for a few nights to do some work and relax a little. Las Vegas Furniture Market, the biggest and widest collection of furniture and bedding suppliers, all gathered into 3 massive buildings built specifically for the industry. I try and make it down every 2 years to see the latest and greatest and to meet face to face with the folks that I normally email with. I have written about Vegas before and it’s charm and how I am drawn to its’ powers, how every time I go, there is always a unique experience and something not to forget. This time of course, was no different. After some meetings and work, we got a chance to visit the Fremont strip downtown and as usual didn’t disappoint and a walk around taking us to the El Cortez, one of the originals. We were in awe of the LED ceiling show, the looseness of the visitors, the overwhelming production value. 3 new firsts for me were the nearby Mob Museum – highly recommend – and the Container Park which is loaded with great places to eat which are all, you guessed it, in shipping containers. The 3rd first for me was staying in a hotel that didn’t have a casino in the lobby and no gambling on this trip! Really refreshing, to be honest, and really unique to not have hoards of people to deal with upon entrance. Who knew that I would actually miss seeing hoards of people. Who knew this would be the last trip in a while, who knew what a mess 2020 would turn out to be. 3 times a lady.
SET UP
A beautiful room overlooking nothing really, well maintained and great accents and features including all the buttons for roll down shades by the bedside. A nice seating area for us to enjoy a glass of drink.
MATTRESS
Simmons Beautyrest manufactured in 2009 and you could tell. The pillowtop has stood up for 10 years but definitely on it’s last legs. California king mattress size, 72″ W x 84″ L. Makes my longged legs feel more at home. The mattress itself was comfortable, but when it was brand new 10 years ago, it would have been a bit too firm for my liking. The years have worn this old puppy down making it just right for me. Simmons is still making this style of mattress, a SPT or special pillow top, a little bit thicker than the traditional 2″ pillowtop, but not quite as cushy or thick as the current day Eurotops. The benefit of the SP top, is that there is not as much sink, so still a good uplifting feel and allowing for some plushness on the achy bones.
SLEEP
As always, a few glasses of the drink and a late night show gets you to sleep pretty well and for the 2 nights it was blissful. No interruptions, and no real schedule to have to contend with. The au naturelle alarm clock got us up at 9 for 8 or 9 really good hours.
LINENS AND MORE
100% cotton – warm cozy linens are always an added bonus. Sobel Westex did a good job here with their hospitality line and the pillows were equally as cozy. You will notice that they zipped the mattress in a full encasement with a zipper lock. Kudos for being on top of the bed bug situation in hotels.
OVERALL
I recommend the Waldorf for an on/off strip location. On the strip, no gambling and hullabaloo to make it seem off the strip. They have done a really nice job with the lobby and interior design, with no over the top lavish Vegas stuff you usually find. The mattress was good enough to not warrant any calls to the general manager and the staff were noticeable enough to get you want you need or want but not in your face. Well done. 👩👩👩
